Is it a sauce? Is it a mixture of spices? Or is it a green leafy herb? Yes! The word curry probably came from the South Indian word for sauce, “kari,” but no one knows for sure. Today curries are popular all over Asia and refer to saucy dishes, dishes with a combination of spices, the citrus-like green leaf that is used to flavor soups and stews and, yes, even curries.
