jimmychoo_fringe.jpgjimmychoo_fringe_open.jpg Heehaw! Or rather Eeee-Ewww! OK, I get it everyone is doing fringy bags, not sure why but I understand the need to hop on the bandwagon and get one on the shelves, but when you are copying the trend, why not one-up everyone by doing something better? Did they really have to come up with THE absolute worst of the trend? Why the double layer shag? Is it really suppose to look like bangs? And how is this for ridiculous - behind the bangs is a zipper compartment. Uh, I am annoyed just thinking about having to brush away those strips every time I zip and unzip. Maybe the bag comes with a ponytail holder. The overload of studs and grommets takes this from Rock n Roll chic to Hell's Angel atrocity. I don't even think Stella from Project Runway would find this appealing, leath-uh or not. At Saks Fifth Avenue for $1495.

I have always been a fan of the deco period, not only am I building a new home with a 1920's Parisian art deco flair, I collect vintage art deco jewelry (Fred Leighton has the best stock), and am on constant lookout for bags with a structured deco feel. I stayed in the Linley Suite at the Claridges during my trip to London-- which was elegantly decorated in fabulous art deco decor by Viscount David Linley-- and it made me want to move to London and live at the heavenly Claridges! But back to earth, I discovered the Maze clutch at the Smython store on Rodeo 2 when Kelly and I had lunch with our producer and talent booker from Stylenetwork at the Daily Grill (an institution in LA!). We had a glass of wine and went shopping, not so smart but oh so fun! She bought an adorable photo frame key ring for a friend while I checked out the jewelry boxes - so insanely fabulous I can not tell you how much I want one! Then I saw these Maze clutches, so clean in structure and simple in design it made me want to take it home. The suede contrast is lovely in its subtlety yet it makes the bag. There are 4 colors to choose from but I love the plummy version above right best-- it's a quick and inexpensive way to update your Fall wardrobe instantly in the very berry trend (and if you hold it upside down, it looks like a T monogram-- made just for me! $975 at Smythson.com.

Pierre Hardy Man Tote

pierrehardy_men_wh.jpgpierehardy_men_black.jpg One of our faithful readers, Sam, emailed us to share his most recent obsessive purchase. He knew our love of Pierre Hardy so he was pandering a bit but who cares, I agree he got himself a bag that makes men and women alike salivate so I had to pass it along. I am trusting Sam's judgement that this bag looks better in person because it is slouchier and not so structured but I don't have to totally rely on him because I know Pierre leather is always buttery soft. For women, sure this is not the most sexy or overwhelming bag but as a lap top / work bag - what could be more sultry? And for men, whenever you choose, it would be the same. Not that I am in the working mood being that I am on Martha's Vineyard but I am going to get this bag for the new Mac Air that I really really want to get. I am sick of having to take 2 bags with me when I have my MacBook with me and if I am schlelpping around town with a computer, I am in serious work mode and as far as work bags go, this is the most slick and stylish you can get. My guy friends around me unanimously voiced their dissent for this bag but I totally disagree - this bag has the right man waiting for it to pick it up and give it some love. Available for $1300 at the Pierre Hardy boutique in Paris or Barneys New York, check the closet one to you to see if they have it.

Marc by Marc Jacobs: Bow Clutch or Mosquito Trap?

marcjbownet2.jpgmarcjbownet.jpg
Please excuse our slow posts this week, I am in Philly and Kelly is in Martha's Vineyard, we usually do not travel at the same time but this was unavoidable! So, after a day of running around Filthadelphia I feel like I am covered in grime. Not in a good mood and came back to hotel to do a bit of work and saw this strange critter of a bag. Since a bow bag is useless in itself, MJ decided to add a mosquito net over it so at least it is functional as a bug trap which would be perfect if you were a street vendor in Phnom Penh (I just read an article about a popular Cambodian snack-- Fried crickets and fried tarantulas and I am still traumatized). Its only saving grace is it's fairly cheap but cheap does not chic make in this case. I know the 80s are back and I do recall wearing a hair bow with net a la Madonna but that memory is best left in 8th grade. Marc by Marc Jacobs Bow Clutch at Net-a-porter.com $250.
