My Favorite Girl Voices: Bands and Solo Artists I Love

In no particular order…

1. Tegan and Sarah: This Canadian duo (they’re sisters!) have such a unique sound and the lyrics are amazing. They’re one of the few bands that sounds better live than on their album. Must-hear song: My Number

2. Rihanna: This pick is probably a little obvious given one of her songs is playing on some radio station in every city at every given moment. But I do think she has an amazing voice. She’s one of the few artists who can bang out a knew hit almost every week– and they’re all pretty solid. My fave right now? Take a Bow

3. Rilo Kiley: I’ll be honest, I’ve not heard a lot their songs, but I’m always amazed at how much I like what i hear. One of my best good friend’s has liked them awhile and once I found out the lead singer was the girl who played the lead in Troop Beverly Hills, I HAD to listen. And they’re great. Must-hear song: Portions for Foxes

4. Lily Allen: Again, I’ll give my best good friend credit for introducing me to this singer. I’d heard about her for years but her antics seemed to be getting more press than her talent so I never payed attention. And then, I heard her — and have been listening to her religiously since. Must-hear song: LDN

5. Jewel: Yes, I love her. I love every song, every album, everything. I think her lyrics are amazing and her voice stirring. While I would love to say that every song she’s ever done is a must-hear, here’s one worth a listen: Serve the Ego

I Now LOVE James McAvoy

I saw Wanted this weekend and really liked it. I generally really like movies about assasins and after seeing Angelina in Mr. and Mrs. Smith (one of my FAVES!), I was excited to see her in this as well. ButI was totallysurprised by how much I really liked James McAvoy. I’ve not yet seen Atonement but now I can’t wait.

I thought the action sequences were incredible and the whole idea of “bending a bullet” is kinda fun. I’ve been fake bending bullets since I watched it. (I also fake karate chopped people for a month after seeing Kill Bill.)

The movie made over $50M which is crazy since it didn’t even get the top spot (Wall-E won). But I think it might give Hancock a run for it’s money this holiday weekend.

Definitely Maybe: Is a DEFINITE Must-See

I missed this movie when it was in theaters which was really disappointing as I was totally jazzed to see it (I’ll pretty much watch anything with Ryan Renolds in it.) So I watched it the day it came out on DVD. AND I LOVED IT.

Aside from Reynolds looking super cute the entire movie, I really enjoyed the plot and the surprises that came out along the way. Elizabeth Banks and Isla Fisher, in particular, are super fun and cute in the movie too. I loved seeing Isla play a real character — you fall in love with her. And Elizabeth Banks! Loved her. Rachel Weisz also stars and is engaging to watch.

But who really stole the show? Little Abigail Breslin. She is so adorable and her comedic timing is impeccable — how someone so young has mastered that, is amazing.

Definitely rent this — it’s the perfect romantic comedy for the 30-something. (And my husband even liked it so you can watch with YOUR man!)

Let me know what you think….

Fools Gold - Hope the Hubby Is Excited to Watch It Tonight!

I’ve seen a few preview clips of Fool’s Gold (which comes out on DVD today) and I’ll definitely be cruising down to blockbuster to pick up a copy to watch tonight.

I was a HUGE fan of How to Lose a Guy a 10 Days which starred Kate Hudson and Matthew McHottie too — so I’m excited to see another film starring the two of them. They have a really good chemistry–both seem to be pretty laid back and funny and cool. I’d definitely hit happy hour with the two of them.

Also, I’m a sucker for “finding lost treasure” movies. Into the Blue, National Treasure, and now this! Can’t wait!

Im Batman. (Okay, so Im not, but I wish I was)

Ever since I was 14, I’ve been absolutely obsessed with Batman. Ever since Michael Keaton pulled on those rubber tights and yellow utility belt, I was hooked.

I’ve stuck with the franchise for the highs (turns out Christian Bale is an awesome Batman) and the lows (Batman and Robin in it’s entirety). I weathered George Clooney bobble his head around as the caped crusader and watched Chris O’Donnell play Robin as he stare wide-eyed as his parents died in a tragic circus fall. Even the bad I loved.

And in just a few weeks, the Dark Knight returns.

This movie has gotten a lot of pre-release buzz due to the untimely death of one of it’s stars, Heath Ledger. And while I’m intrigued to see this talented actor’s final performance, I’m just really pumped to see my favorite superhero back in action.

I’ll be seeing this the day it comes out. (Unless of course someone has a screener they’d like to let me borrow!)

What is your favorite superhero movie?
