Kickin it with Paula Patton at Charlotte Ronson

I had a bit of idle time before the Charlotte Ronson show began, and just as I was strolling to my seat I spotted Paula Pattonthe gorgeous actress from Swing Vote and Idlewild (not to mention crooner Robin Thickes wife). Seated next to Andy Hilfiger, Im glad to report that shes just as beautiful in person as she is on screen! (If she wasnt so freakin nice, Id be a hater!)

We had a little chit-chat about all things girly, and she confessed that she doesnt really have a favorite designer, but Charlotte Ronson is actually one of her close friends. She also let me know that shes definitely a shoes and handbag kind of girl, because to her they make the outfit. As for her makeup bag necessities, she says she must always have lip gloss and blush on her person.

Funny, she didnt mention any brands in particular. Im wondering if its possible that shes waiting for the ink to dry on an impending beauty contract My spidey sense says yes, but well just have to wait and see.

Backstage at Erin Fetherston

So right before the show began, an apologetic publicist informed me that make-up artist Bobbi Brown could not make our interview slot as she had to run at short notice. What could be more important than talking to me? An intimate dinner at Bon Jovis New Jersey home for Barack Obama. Hmmm Ok then, fair enough. Instead, I spoke with her right hand man, John Hernandez, who had worked on models like Chanel Iman for the show to create a ballerina sparkle look for the show. He told me that, to complement the ethereal clothes from Fetherstons show, his girls would be: Shimmering with lavender eyes, violet gel liner and lashings of black mascara. Extra shimmer was given to the cheeks with both Bobbi Brown product glitz and a bronzer to define the cheekbones.

Also backstage was a stylish Roisin Murphy, who had followed the theme of the evening in a sequinned dress, and new Nylon TV presenter (and British tabloid regular) Peaches Geldof who shunned doing any actual camera work for huddling in the corner with her new husband, Max Drummey.

After having a quick word with Erin herself about the inspirations behind the collection: A fantasy world, inspired by my daydreaming while looking up to the clouds, I popped out to the front to take my seat for the show of clothes that take you to the clouds literally.

Erin Fetherston: Giddy Up!

fetherson.jpg

Chock full of opalescence and tiered organza, Erin Fetherston’s Spring 2009 show had me wondering, “is this New York Fashion Week…or have I been teleported into an episode of My Little Pony?” Whatever the case, it was surely beautiful. As I watched models gallop down the runway (ponytails swishing behind them) dressed in colored frocks titled “twilight pink,” “sunset,” “rainbow,” and “sequin flutter,”–Fetherston had me almost jumping out of my seat in an attempt to join the herd. Too bad my black ensemble would have stuck out like a sore thumb! Plus, I forgot to wear my unicorn horn :(xx, Alexandra Goldsteinkissy1.jpg

Jason Wu: Cotton Candy Couture

The ambiance of Jason Wus Spring 2009 showing was an homage to all things horizontal. The Exit Art studio where the show was held sported sleek white columns, bamboo curtains, and an overall evocation of cleanliness. One editor behind me even gushed, I feel so chic in this interior! The models, however, were cotton candy bubble gum (you know, the purple kind that turns your tongue a deep Willy Wonka violet). The models aqua-lined eyes, baby pink cheeks, and whispy buns seemed like various extensions from one large tuff of cotton candy. Even the teenie-bop music was sweet enough to rot your teeth!

Front row, we had a few sugary words with Leighton Meester, who plays not-so-sweet Blair Waldorf on The CWs Gossip Girl.

We asked: Whats the one item this year at Fashion Week that you just cannot live without?
Meester responded, A supportive friend [laughs]! I think sanity, because it gets really crazy. Oh, and her Jimmy Choo shoes. I love platform sling backs, theyre really, really comfortable and I can pretty much wear them with anything especially if I have a change in the middle of the day.

We couldnt agree more!

Japanese Quirkiness (Oh and Meet Myf)

Fearless, bright colors, out-of-this world fashion choices and anime are all things that make me think of Japanese culture. I always wish I could have the guts to put myself together like that. Backstage at the Jason Wu show proved no different. (it may have given me a little more inspiration!). The hair was eclectic, crimped extensions strewn everywhere from on the tables to models alike. Hair Stylist Kevin Ryan of RsessionTools was hard at work, flipping buns, double-ponying straight hair, bobby pins disappearing like magic. His words on the style: Simple, clean, quirky. Straightforward enough for you?

Strewn Hair

Revlon makeup artist, Gucci Westman, was inspired by designer Jason Wus own inspiration. Not only were his clothes (the prints, the colors and the textures) her go-to for the theme behind todays show, but the designers trip to Japan made everything come alive.

Gucci and Model

Gucci Westman putting the final touches on a model

Ive been inspired by trips to Japan many times so I can relate. He was saying, I want it to be like a graphic Japanese kid. I immediately thought eyeliner, a square shape, because the Japanese really love their eyeliner and I love how they dress. Theyre so brave and theyre sense of dress is just so inspiring. I was really excited, especially because his clothes are amazing.

Makeup Table

Products such as Revlon Matte Eye Shadow, a Rosy Glow Cream Blush and 3D Extreme Mascara were used

The Look Can Be Yours: Gucci swears that its not very difficult. By using creamy textures and eyeliners, along with a shade in the corner, (she was using “Venetian Blue”) the look will really pop and become playful and animated.

Lets not forget about Myf

Myf

Who: Myf

What: Jason Wu Runway Model

Why Just A First Name: Her last name, Shepard, is just too boring

Beauty Product She Cant Live Without: Sunscreen

Myfs Hair

She gave me a little sneak peek of her finished hair, we’re like bff now : )
