Anna Sui For Anna Sui’s fall 2007 collection, the look was edgy chic. She conveyed her eclectic vision by pairing bold patterned tunics with printed leggings and tights, and layering full-skirted frocks over classic solid turtlenecks. The intricate accessories stood out as well: Ornate belts, hats, necklaces, and even footwear set each look over-the-top.
BCBG Max Azria BCBG Max Azria is always a fun show on the first day of Fashion Week, and this season is no different. The runway was full of loose-fitting dresses with knit caps, tights, and clutches. Black, slate, and jewel tones mixed with nonconforming pieces, minimal makeup, and messy hair made for the ultimate blend of feminine and slightly rebellious. And the gold-and-black-tipped shoes worn by most of the models were the perfect accent to a fabulous show.
Betsey Johnson Three words to describe Betsey Johnson’s fall 2007 collection: seductive, cheeky, chic.  Plaids, metallics, tweeds, and black wool intermingled on the catwalk in the form of egg-shaped coats, body-skimming minidresses, and wide-leg pants. Our favorite piece? The strapless lace-tiered stunner, complete with a skinny black belt.
Calvin Klein Calvin Klein’s fall 2007 collection was minimalism at its best. Shades of gray dominated the show, with a couple of splashes of forest green and cobalt blue. Klein also featured gorgeous outerwear including some cropped jackets as well as beautiful full-length fall coats. Crocodile bags perfectly accented the chic runway looks. The highlight: formfitting strapless gowns with sweetheart necklines.
Carolina Herrera To have a closet bursting at the seams with Carolina Herrera’s fall 2007 line would be more than a dream come true. Gorgeous girls gleefully glided along the catwalk in flirty floor-sweeping gowns, sleek swing frocks, sporty satin jackets, and cool cocktail dresses in perfect-for-fall shades of inky black, poppy red, and slate gray. A fan of silver-fox fur detail, Herrera even featured pieces in the must-have look for fall: metallic.
Diane von Furstenberg Inspired by the rich culture of Spain, Diane von Furstenberg’s fall 2007 collection, titled La Movida, was full of bold brights and inky blacks. Beautiful pieces in the form of tunic frocks, full skirts, cocktail dresses, and of course wrap dresses floated seamlessly along the white catwalk. The showstopper? A jewel-encrusted taffeta cocktail dress worn by supermodel Alek Wek.
Donna Karan Donna Karan’s fall 2007 collection is dramatically reminiscent of the bombshell fashions of film noir. While the palette doesn’t stray far from signature black, the striking structural silhouettes, asymmetrical cuts, draping patterns, and exaggerated collars create a stunning line that is both classic and cutting-edge.
Marc Jacobs The king of American fashion has done it again. Marc Jacobs unveiled his fall collection at the New York Armory to hundreds of MJ fans including Lil’ Kim, Lenny Kravitz and daughter Zoe, Michelle Rodriguez, Joss Stone, Rod Stewart, Liya Kebede, Helena Christensen, and Amber Valetta. The runway was full of beautiful handbags, hats with wide brims, and gloves—very chic. And with a theme that can only be described as French ’70s glamour, we have no doubt the fashion-forward will be sporting these stunning looks in the fall.
Marchesa Marchesa’s fall 2007 collection was chock-full of magnificent creations. Exquisite gowns with Empire waists and asymmetrical designs graced the runway. The dreamy dresses were pumped up with layer upon layer of tulle and embellished with stunning jewels and feathers. With an emphasis on elegant shades of black, white, silver, and champagne, Marchesa’s collection conveyed both a fairy-tale flair and a sweet sophistication.
Michael Kors Chic, glamorous, classic.  Those three words capture the fabulous looks that hit the runway at the Michael Kors show. Sparkly cocktail dresses, fur coats, and flowing gowns came together for a polished and sophisticated collection. Kors used black, white, and many shades of gray, but didn’t hide from color—there were several pops of cobalt blue and orange. And he didn’t shy away from metallics either. A highlight piece? His personal take on the trench: black patent leather with gorgeous leopard lining.
Narciso Rodriguez Narciso Rodriguez clearly knows what he does best, and this season he returned to his trademark minimalism and architectural inspirations by staying true to his long, lean silhouette of tailored dresses and pants, with occasional fullness found in flowing gowns and oversize outerwear. Using a palette of signature black, white, and gray, with sporadic blue, eggplant, and metallic prints, Rodriguez presented sleek, refined designs that few can match.
Oscar de la Renta Each season, Oscar de la Renta is the show every editor looks forward to. It’s a who’s who of the fashion magazine world in the first several rows, with editors in chief separated only by celebrities and socialites (including Fashion Week mainstay Tinsley Mortimer). This year was no different. And as with his past collections, Oscar delivered in a big way. His print cocktails dresses were gorgeous, his jackets trimmed with fur were stunning, and the gowns—oh, the gowns! The king of runway glamour reigns again.
Peter Som Peter Som is loved for his beautiful and ethereal designs, and this season he outdid himself. His fall 2007 collection defines feminine chic, with sweeping gowns, effervescent frocks, and sweetly ruffled coats and blouses. Plush furs, silky overcoats, and flowing tiered dresses were some of the highlights of this simply celestial collection.
Phillip Lim The models at the 3.1 Phillip Lim show floated along the runway wearing beautiful ballerina skirts, jersey dresses, pleated culottes, biker-cut pants, and organza tiara headbands adorned with Swarovski crystals. While the collection’s muted palette didn’t stray too far from ordinary blue, gray, black, and neutral hues, Lim’s extraordinary designs, luxurious fabrics, and flattering cuts exuded an air of understated elegance and relaxed refinement.
Proenza Schouler Newbie design duo Proenza Schouler’s posh collection took to the catwalk with rave reviews. Rich shades of royal blue, forest green, winter white, and jet black were featured in the form of plush fur coats, sleek pencil skirts, and prim formfitting dresses. Each look was topped off with a chic bowler hat, which complemented the refined collection perfectly.
Ralph Lauren It was classic Ralph Lauren at his fall 2007 collection show. Striking dresses, smart outerwear, and chic suits marched along the runway. Lauren brilliantly used rich caramel suede for a jaw-dropping floor-length gown and a two-piece suit. His signature black dresses made a stunning appearance, including one dazzling floor-length, strapless gown complete with a big bow on the back. Other highlights included an edgy gold leather jacket, full-skirted fall coats, and beautiful berets on many of the models.
