HIDE STUFF: Minutes before the party starts is not the time to begin a spring cleaning. Scan your pad for unsightly piles that should be put away and tuck them away under the bed or in a closet until you have time to properly store them. Clear tables of everything other than one or two ornamental items and drape a sarong, tablecloth, or other fabric over your less attractive tables and chairs
DIM ALL THE LIGHTS: Set a sultry mood by eliminating all overhead lights and using lamps, clusters of candles (put them in glasses and jam jars for effortless glamour), and if possible, amber-color light bulbs. When lighting casts a warm glow, everyone—and everything—look better.
ADD AROMAS: Incense, scented candles, and potpourri give the impression of a clean and inviting home—and can mask odors from last night’s party, your pet, or the full trashcan. Scatter them generously—in every room, if possible—and you’re half way home.
CREATE GATHERING SPOTS: Inspire guests to relax and chill by designing areas for easy congregation. Lay a blanket in a corner of the living room and include pillows for floor seating. Gather a few chairs around a side table draped with fabric and topped with a lamp or candles. Add pillows around the coffee table for more low-level lounging.
BEAUTIFY THE BATHROOM: As the only spot that gets your guests’ complete attention, a little primping in the potty goes a long way. Aside from essentials such as extra toilet paper and hand towels, add elegant elements such as a floral bouquet, soaps, and an array of mints. Also, go strictly with candlelight. It makes everything sexy—and does a decent job of hiding
