Whether you've got the top wedding planner in town or are throwing together a relaxed backyard affair, these five tips will help make sure you have the best possible time as you walk down the aisle and into the next phase of your life.
ON THE BIG DAY, LEAVE ALL OUTSTANDING ORGANIZATIONAL DETAILS TO SOMEONE YOU TRUST and accept that the tasks may get done a little differently than you would do them. Stressing over who’s holding the rings, handing out programs, or making sure Grandma is happy is the last thing you want to do on your special day.
IF YOU DON'T GET ALONG WITH A FAMILY MEMBER WHO’S ATTENDING THE WEDDING AND EXPECTING TO PREP WITH YOU, come up with a nonconfrontational way to keep that person busy and out of your hair. Assign her a "special" task or get family or friends to divert her so you can get ready in peace and stay relaxed during your walk down the aisle.
DON'T EXPECT TO HAVE MEANINGFUL EXCHANGES WITH ALL YOUR GUESTS. After the wedding, many brides are overcome with guilt or grief because they didn't get to spend quality time with people who have come to honor them. But as with any big party, guests know that the hosts are overwhelmed. They expect nothing more than the opportunity to share the joy of your very special event with you, and you should expect the same.
ROLL WITH THE PUNCHES. Like life, weddings don't always go as planned. Whether it rains on your nuptial parade literally or figuratively—with a trickle or downpour—the best way to ensure that you and your guests have a good time and fondly remember the day is to relax and make the best of it, even if that means dancing in the mud, laughing off the inappropriate speech by your wacky uncle, or graciously welcoming your fiancé's wedding-crashing ex.
HAVE FUN. Never mind schmoozing with your stepbrother's second cousin or glad-handing your dad's business partners. It's your day. Live it up and savor every moment exactly the way you want to. Let nothing stand in the way of a good time and you'll be left with magical memories that will last a lifetime.
